An unexpected encounter with stones, picking up stones on the coast of Fukui Prefecture | Memories No. 8 |
Stone picking trip|Oshima coast in Fukui prefecture
April 2, 2016.
I haven’t been able to go pick up stones lately. I couldn’t find any jade when I was picking up stones in Itoigawa, which is also known as the Jade Coast, and when I brought back the stones I picked up on a company trip, they looked a little different…
I want to pick up more stones!
Just as I was thinking about this, we all made plans to go to the house of TADA, a local designer named Fukui, who is a friend of mine since school days.
TADA is married and owns a house. (In Fukui, people sometimes build houses before the wedding, and sometimes they don’t.) We decided to stay there.
So, do you want to go on a trip to Fukui right away?
I’m from Nagoya and S and K are from Tokyo, so we met at Fukui Station.
Wait for TADA at the rotary.
TADA shows up in a car. “It’s been a while!” It’s been a few years since we reopened, but the appearance hasn’t changed much. Maybe my face is a little plump.
If you meet a friend you haven’t seen in a while and notice that their appearance has changed a lot or their personality seems different, you may feel a little lonely. Good, good. The basics remain the same: TADA.
Anyway, the first day is sightseeing in Fukui.
Fukui is a good place. The food is delicious, there aren’t too many people or cars, and time moves slowly.
It’s not that I’m tired of my daily life and work. The richness of nature just feels so good.
After eating lunch, going to the eyeglasses museum, and doing other things, the sun went down in the blink of an eye.
Ah, Nodoka. It’s a peaceful place.
For dinner, we had a yakitori party at TADA’s house. extremely happy.
And S, K, and TADA still don’t know my thoughts as I secretly plan to pick up stones.
I’m drunk so I guess I’ll sleep tonight. Hahaha.
April 3, 2016.
This is Oshima, Fukui Prefecture. Suddenly Oshima. TADA will be informed at this timing. This servant is actually a stone person.
Let’s all pick up stones.
Suddenly he picked up a stone and showed it to TADA.
K and S looked a little taken aback.
People who make even a small living from design or art tend to be stone people. This is because he is highly sensitive and finds the shapes created by nature interesting.
While I was busy picking up stones from Ojima, TADA started to show interest.
Hmm. This is good and bad. Isn’t that the case?
Yes, that’s fast. What is this unusual speed at accepting this stone? And how quickly he turned to the idea of stone!
Even though S and K still haven’t had enough fun picking up rocks.
To be honest, all the stones on Ojima are rugged and cannot be called beautiful. However, for TADA, it was a memorable moment when he discovered the act of picking up stones. TADA instantly turned into a stone person on Ojima.

So, the stone I picked up looks like this. (There is one artifact that S slipped in as a prank. Do you understand?)
Surprisingly… It’s surprisingly bitter and good. I feel like I was able to discover the goodness of stones that I hadn’t discovered before.
The stones of Ojima gave me a new sense of value, as I tended to be drawn to smooth stones, stones with beautiful colors, and stones with round shapes. This may have been a new step forward as a stone person.

Thank you TADA. Thank you Fukui.
Let’s go again. On a trip to pick up stones.
The three of us left Fukui.
I took it home and lined it up.
Closer cut. It has a very good taste.
····A few days later.
Living in Nagoya while thinking about Fukui,
Suddenly, an image was sent to me from TADA.
TADA “Discovered a pretty nice coast in Fukui”
what,,,! ?
Is there a place like this on Ojima?
Show me the stone you picked up…
TADA “Like this”
! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
,,, Is there something like this?
TADA, eyes open.
Continuing to the next time, memory number nine is,
A stone journey to Fukui and Toyama with TADA, a man blessed by stones!
